Transmission Troubles
I have a '99 A4 with 95000 miles and the transmission is slipping going into 2nd gear. Is fine in 1st and 3rd and OD. Fluid level is fine. Worst case is putting in a rebuild transmission from local Chevy dealer, cost of $2500-2700 dollars. Sounds kind of steep. Has anyone had transmission rebuild and what was the cost? Are there any mods to be done while replacing trans?

I just had my 99 A4 rebuilt at 43,000 miles. It was under warranty. I'm sure your is not. I'd go with a beefed up version for the same or less cost unless you plan on selling it soon. Sorry to hear your story. It does suck and these A4's are the weak link in the C5. I think the heat just fries these transmissions after so long, and it does not take a whole lot to overheat them especially in hot climates. Consider a larger trans cooler when you replace it. They are inexpensive to buy and install.

call rodney, i did and he's gonna have one for me,i'm at 381rwhp and 99k+ stock tranny and startin to act stupid,,,, have extended warranty though so as soon as it goes..... rodney to the rescue.

99 clutches
Same problem on my 99, slipping in 1st gear high rpm's, would hit about 4500 r's & fly up till rev limiter kicked in but wouldn't upshift! Turned out to be clutches, had B&M clutches & B&M shift kit installed, parts & labor only $1800 with 2 year warranty. Nice stiff shift now that gives a good chirp from 1st to 2nd.

Took my car to Rodney, a 4 hour drive and dropped it off to Rodney at RPM transmissions. Rodney really knows what he's doing and has a really cool shop! Car runs like a champ and got in great with the wife for a weekend in Indy! Can't wait to take it back and get the gears changed with the $1500 he saved me!!
