Default Tune or 'LS1 edit'....???

Over the years I have installed a vararam, LS6 manifold, long tube headers, removed cats and installed an exhaust. Never heard or thought of a 'tune' until I joined this forum. Now I read about an 'LS1 edit'. Is this the same as a 'tune' or 'dyno tune'? This spring I plan on having a cam installed. By reading the threads, it seems I will need a 'tune' or an 'LS1 edit' with the install. What is it??? Is it a plug in thing for the computer? Is it expensive? Necessary? HELP

Hold off untill you do your cam, then definately get it done.

I have seen LS1 edit with Dyno time as low as $250 and as high as $600 though I'm sure some have paid more or less.

You will want it after the cam because it will help you get all you can from it. You really "should" have done it after the Headers but if the car is running fine then just wait till the cam

ls1 edit is software used to tune the car.
I don't think a "dyno tune" only is as good as what some might call a "road tune" (just my opinion).
In a road tune they will scan first or depending on how fare you have modified the car start with a base file upload. then you will drive the car and they will scan it. they the file can be adjusted, scanned, adjusted as needed. the final step will be dyno runs to set WOT ratios and display hp/tq curves. This method provides the best drivability.
It also cost more because it takes longer.
wait till you install the cam and then have the car tuned. basically you try to install all the mods and then tune (like the mods ever end) . retunes should be cheaper because they require less time. I don't know were you live but post a request for forum tuners in your area. see how the forum members like thier work.

I had long tube headers done in the late fall, along with a tune, using LS! edit, using a dynometer to check results. I think that's what is meant by a "dyno tune". I'm real happy with the results.

The work was done by Slowhawk, on this forum, and he's based in Seekonk, Mass.
