Default 427 Crate Engines

Does anyone know if GM is going to offer the 427 as a crate engine? I am getting closer to pulling the trigger on a supercharger or more cubic inches.

Thanks,
The Big Dog

Same question here! Getting close to a "fresh'en up" Got 125K on my current setup and maybe at 150-175K would look to upgrade. I would just love to drop in a 427 crate, (everything being reasonable of course).

I've heard GM will be offering the LS7, but I don't know if it will be released this year... I do know it won't be cheap to throw one in your C5!

You're better off looking at the aftermarket, there have been some GREAT 427 prices on hear within the past couple months!

gmpartsdepot.com advertises the LS7 will be available in fall of 2005. I am just guessing but I think it will be less expensive than the 427s currently offered. The LS2 is just a little over 6k, and the LS6 is just under 6K.

True it won't be cheap. But it will be a whole lot cheaper than paying 70K+ for a new Z06 to get one. If the 427 proves to be too expensive. The forged 402 short block for $3700.00 sounds like a sweet deal.

I very seriously doubt that. None of the current engines are using Titanium rods, that by itself is going to be a big chunk of change.

A GM 427 short block would be a big hit with gearheads.

The general consensus on LS1Tech seems to be in the $12,000 - $16,000 range. Still a bargain!!
Supposedly the Ti rods are no big deal as far as cost is concerned - i.e. the #s GM will buy.

The LS7 is in my future!

Default Ls7

I make a little mistake on my post above. The LS6 longblock with throttle body back to the exhaust mainifold is 6999.00. The LS2 does not include as much as the LS6 package but it is a longblock and it is 5895.00. The aftermarket 427s I have checked on are anywhere from 16k to around 22k. Even if the LS7 is twice as much as the LS6 14K, it is still less expensive than what is offered now. Although some of these aftermarket 427s are higher HP than the LS7. I like the idea of a stock GM engine and the warranty it comes with. Not knocking the engine builders though they are some fine engines and some of them also come with a warranty. Anyway I can not wait to see what the LS7 will go for, fall 2005 for gmpartsdepot.com.

The LS7 heads are supposed to flow 360 - 370 cfm - stock! Valve angle is 12* which is near the 11* of C5R heads.
This engine makes huge power and meets EPA specs.
Think what it will do with a Big cam, Ported and milled heads (11.75:1 CR ? ) bigger injectors and 1 7/8 longtube headers.
Monster in the making!
How about FI....spooky thought!

The only problem i might have is the dry sump system the LS7 has and mounting issues. It would be nice. I recently read that it has forged pistons?? its been back and forth regarding the pistons forged vs cast. If they are forged that motor is stout and FI would no doubt be an unbelievable add on.

My guess has always been $12k for the crate motor. NOT retail...but what you can find it for from discount suppliers.

$75k is still pretty close to reality though. The sources who have proved very reliable in the past are saying $66k base, $73k optioned...and those numbers seem quite realistic to me.

Only time will tell how good our guesses are...because "officially speaking", that's all anyone can do
