I just changed my stock one out for a ported and descreend one. Do you think I picked up any power? Seem a little more quick on the throttle response, but thats probably just me. My current mods are:
Vararam
WCC air bridge
Power Coupler
BBk ported 80mm TB
224/563/112 TR cam
Lingenfelter intake, portmatched to the ported heads
Throttle body bypass
ASP poulley
Ported heads 2.02/1.575
TPIS long tubes with highflow cats and corsa x-pipe
Corsa Touring exhaust
Tuned by Norris motorsports...
Had mine done like that (and a couple other things) by Bob at Dragon's Breath Performance. Increased throttle response has been the biggest result but I am happy about that.
The stock MAF is not a restriction until after ~600 HP I think so I would venture to say you picked up zilch. If you did pick up anything it's because more air is getting by the MAF than it thinks because of the porting and de-screening. This causes the A/F to be a bit leaner.
You pretty much just skewed all of your tuner's tuning IMO. With all your mods and LS1 Edit tuning already done I'm surprised you considered this mod.
Well, I can always switch back...but I did run a new best at the track even though I managed to not launch it 100% LS1 edited computers still do learn and will compensate to an extent. I wouldn't think that a ported and descreened stock MAF would cause it to run any different...hasn't since I put it on...
Yea, I know they will stil learn, but only in closed loop, and you're asking it to learn bad data. So if you are getting more air than the MAF thinks is coming through then you will run leaner in closed loop. This will cause the PCM to add fuel via STFT which will cause the LTFT's to go up, which could push you into a positive LTFT which would cause your WOT operation to run richer. Now if adding fuel to your WOT operation happens to make more HP then great but it's a symptom of the system responding to the bad airflow data its receiving, not due to the porting and de-screening directly.
