Help Fish Smell
Hi Guys,
I have been getting a nasty fish smell
in my Vette while I'm driving. Any idea what it could be? EGR? It's not an oder that is in the car before it gets hot. And it does not do it all the time either.

fish smel...
So... have you pissed someone off in your life..close to you ..or at work?.. I guess someone ...could pour fish juice... down your fresh air vent.. but... hummmmmmm that is pretty much a Karma Thing... ya... I never had it happin to me.... twice... ya that's it.. that's my story...and I am sticking to it... ya... time to go home.. to my wife... Morgan Fairchild..ya ..that's it....

Does it smell like fish, or rotten eggs.
That would make a difference.
Rotten eggs could be your catalytic converter (how many miles on the car), or even a fuel filter.
A distinct fish smell, particularly from the passenger side could be, well, never mind....

This is an honest answer:
A marten once put a fish into the engine bay of my friends car.
And a marten once put a pigeon into the engine bay of my old mercedes car.
Did you take a look into you engine bay?

You've gotten some mold in the ac duct...spray the inlet at the base of the windshield with a water/bleach mix or buy some duct cleaner at Advance Auto that does the same thing...common on c5's.

I think mold can also be caused by the A/C drain being plugged.

You may also want to add a bottle of douche the next time you fill up. This should get rid of the smell.
My guess is you have something funky growing in your duct work.
Sorry to say but it may become a real PITA to get rid of the source.

I suspect you got water in it at some point, plugged AC drain lines and/or leaks in the door/roof/windows are among the most common causes for this type of situation. You may have to check for leaks just after washing it to see if that is your problem. There are, as was mentioned, cleaners for the AC duct work - mold can grow there (as it can in an car's AC system) and these sprays can help keep it under control. There are also odor eliminators (not air fresheners) that can provide you some relief.
That being said, I will exercise restraint (very unusual for me, isn't it EG?) and not pass on some of my other thoughts - but they were funny so feel free to laugh anyway.

The smell might be a rotten egg smell. There is no smell sitting in the car or running the AC or heat, it only comes after it's been running for a while. And it comes and goes. I think it's the cats. I was putting my roof back on the car today while the car was running and I could smell it from the back exhaust. So I think it's the cats for sure. I stopped by Midas and they said they don't work on Vetts, and I don't want to take it to the dealer.
