Need Help getting C5 Started
I own a 1998 C5 with 10K miles on it. I am the original owner and know the full history of the vehicle.
I started the vehicle about a month ago and let it idle in the garage for about 45 minutes.
I then excelerated he engine a couple times and shut off the ignition before the RPM came back to idle. I then immediaty proceeded to start the car again, with no luck. The car wouldn't start again, it turns over but wouldn't fire. In the display on the console I get things like "brake before shifting", "Reduce engine speed" etc.
Since I don't have the equipment for reading codes, I have no idea where to turn.
I called the local dealier who for indicated I would need to tow it in to have it looked at and offered no assistance.
He did indicate that the codes probably have locked out the engine as it may have detected a problem that could seriously damage the engine. This was a percaution to keep from damaging the engine.
Can anyone offer me any help?

No special equip required to read the codes - follow the first steps in this tech tip, and write down the codes, then post them..
Also, just because it is common, do you still have the original battery?

First things comes to mind: Gas and ignition. It you have both - fuel pump is working/getting gas and spark to the plugs. Check your airflow meter or sensor. I had this problem on another type of car and found out... it was that.
After costing me over $300 (towing, part and labor) for this simple device; I learned to check on this part too. The cost on labor was a joke. They charged me close $90 for 4 small bolts/R&R. Good Luck!
