Default Nitto 555R Drag Radial

For those of you who have these, how are they for handling? I realize that they are DR's but how are they for twisties? I will not auto cross or anything like that, but I will have the occasional 1/4 mile track day. Also, my car is just a nice weather car, how are they for using on the streets?

Thanks,
Darion

They're noisy...plus, if there's any rain...you better just push the car home as it'll be safer then to drive with them!
These are go straight, fast tires...that's about it!!!

I disagree.....These are the Best Drag radial as far as handling goes. They hook pretty good once warm, and I don't notice much difference at all in cornering during regular driving. there are other DR's that will give you a little better straight line grip, but I really feel these are the best compromise.

Nitto DRs drive almost as good as regular street tires. Not "squirmy" on the highway; they are even fine in the wet, as long as they still have good tread left.

My bfg drag radials are not squirmy on the road either. I've been over 155 before and the car is as stable as can be. In water the Nittos are probably a bit better but they are all kinda hairy to be on in the rain. Ive had the Nitto 555Rs, the BFG comp TA drag radials and the BFG G forces which I use now. For the best street/track traction the BFG G forces win hands down. But they only last 5-8K miles. My nittos lasted about 9-10K. The car corners just as well if not better then w/ the runflats too.

He must be a troll, or is has never really driven these tires! He is just plain WRONG! They are NOT noisy! They are quiet! They are GOOD to EXCELLENT in the rain!

AWESOME traction in dry weather! Nice ride too!

Great handling, not like regular but good enough!

I ran these all last spring, summer, fall and now a little in winter. I could not "floor" my car before, now I can punch it and go fast and quick, I fear no Subaru's off the line!

I have had mine to 135 mph. very smooth and straight, no squirm!

Sorry for the harsh words, but he is wrong and deserves it for posting WRONG INFORMATION ON THE FORUM!

CJS,

Thanks for the post, very strong opinion, you don't work for Nitto in R&D do ya. Just kidding, really. I am interested in the Nitto because it is the only tire that I can find in a 305/35-18 and a 275/40-17 sizes. Other wise I can go stock ZO6 sizes and get more selection.

Thanks for all the replies and keep them coming if you would,

Darion

My plan was to install the 555r's on the back and leave my F1's on the front....bad idea or no?

Just bought the R2's and agree completely with Vnvette. They are fantastic tires in terms of traction, grip and steering response---and even the ride qualities are good (much better than runflats). As long as you don't try to drive like Schumacher in the rain, wet performance is fine. You will love them.

Great tire! It's already been said, but I agree they are quiet and also handle well in the rain. I've also been past 160mph on the R's...great stability at speed.

I am running stock F1Scs on the front and 555rs on the rear. Switching from the F1s I can say the ride is the same, straight line performance is better, wet traction is better, and there is some small loss in handling (maybe in part to the bigger size.) They fill the wheel well alot better though.

I had 555r's on the back of my turbocharged '98 z28. They had good traction in the wet and unbelievable traction when dry (16" rims). I have been about 190mph on them without ever having a problem. I also found them to be a little cheaper at Discount Tire Direct, anyone else find them cheaper?
