Default I'm hating everything electrical on this car!

In the last two months my dual climate control display has gone, the foglight switch doesn't work, my oil temp gauge has gone to the max, and now the bulb in the door that illuminates the switches has gone out. Every one of these things is expensive to fix! I took the switch panel out of the door to see that it is a whole unit with no place to replace the bulb inside. That means more $$ to replace the whole thing. The foglight/rear hatch switch is a $100 at the dealer, the climate control unit is $400, and I'm not even going to bother with the oil pressure gauge sensor . Anyone else experiencing this many electrical problems or is it just me?

Default Look for this

Search for posts by Bill Curlee,he has had many problems like you describe. These cars are notorious for this stuff. I'd say he fixed 98% of his original prob. after finding and cleaning his grounds. your oil switch is probably bad,i believe it usually needs replaced. Hope that helps!!

The LED's in your door switch CAN be replaced. Look for posts or contact myvettedream, he is a wizard with this stuff.

The AC controller, is it the digital display or the backlighting that went out?

There are electrical bugs in this car but somehow mines actually been fairly reliable.

Thanks for the replies. It is the digital display that has gone completely. I've been told that the whole unit has to be replaced. I'm going to check the fuses and grounds one more time. Let you know what I find.

Go to www.ebaymotors.com, Parts & Accessories and search on C5 Corvette. The climate control units are quite common for about $200.

If you can't get the parts working by cleaning grounds etc. Give Gene at Karshop a call. He is fantastic at having used parts at a fraction of new costs. Also a supporting vendor. Great guy to do business with.

Check your battery, too. Mine started exhibiting strange things before the battery itself was gone far enough to test marginal but after I had to replace it, all the gremlins were dead.

Never thought of that. I've had the car for just over 2 years now, and the battery has never been an issue for me. Although, I don't think it's the original battery anyway.

I am having the same problem with my climate control module. I replaced the original one with a new one from GM parts direct and it is starting to do the same thing. The display goes completely out and nothing works and then it might come back on. It always happens when it is needed most. Like on a rainy day with no defroster. I have posted this problem but have no solution yet.

I would be careful of getting a used one. It might have the same problem. At least the one I bought does have a 12 month warranty.

I would like to know if something else like some other module controls this.

If you find a solution to the climate control problem other than replacing it please let me know. If I find out anything I will do the same.

Good Luck!!!!

I was also worried about getting a used one, just because it might be faulty too. I plan on replacing it soon. If I find a solution I will definitely let you know. Thanks for the advice

Give Gene at Karshop a call and he can fix you up with a used unit and save yourself $. He is a forum vendor and a great guy to deal with. I got mine from him and he sent me a late model unit which is a more reliable design. It was a snap to install.
