Ok. I have had the sticky pedal problem happen to me. It was suggested by another forum member to remove the assist spring that helps you push in the clutch. I removed it ad it feels like it returns harder and is more "springy." The only thing that I am concerned about is that now at the very top of engagement the pedal is very soft. Feels like the clutch fully engages at the point to where there is no play in the pedal after clutch is engaged. Grabs at the very top where the pedal becomes soft. It feels a little wierd and I can live with it. It is just that i hope its not going to burn out my clutch. Im just concerned that since it grabs at the very top and no play after that, that maybe it is slipping a little bit. Has anyone else removed this sprong? Input?
I cannot see removing the assist spring changing the engagement point. I would imagine the engagement point has not moved, it just feels like it has.
If your engagement point is at that top of the pedal travel I would try doing the pressure plate adjustment to try to get more life out of the clutch but it may be that you will need another one soon.
Yea, it just feels as if the engagement point is where the pedal gets less springy. Before, the pedal was forced up at the top so there was resistance when I first pushed it. Now its really spongy the first couple inches. If I just tap my foot on the pedal, it will move easily as to before it would just stay there. This is what its like...
Spring: Same pedal pressure throughout movement.
Without spring: Very soft at top but gets stiff/springy at bottom.
I also notice that when I shift, it feels like I dont have to slip the clutch much to have a smooth shift, as to before if i let it out at the same speed, the car would shift slightly rougher.
What is the pressure plate adjustment that was mentioned. How is it done and how difficult is it to do? Thanks
It's in the service manual. It involves removing the inspection cover and adjusting two of three adjusting tabs on the stock (LUK) pressure plate while someone else pushes in on the clutch pedal. It is suppsed to adjust the fulcrum point of the pressure plate diaphram.
i removed this spring and i also feel like there isa little free play but the engagement seemed the same to me. The pedal hasnt stuck since either. Ill know for sure soon if its coming back
The removal pretty much eliminated the common "sticky pedal" syndrome. Im seeing if anyone has had any negatives to this months after. If not, I think this is the resolution for that issue.
I had (have again) the sticking pedal problem and the dealer replaced ALL the clutch components under warranty. The problem has returned 6 months later so I am taking it back in. Last time they told me my flywheel was warped which is believable because I also have a driveline vibration problem.
