The procedure for filling/checking the fluid in an automatic transmission is to raise the car so that it's level and start the engine and operate it until the transmission fluid is between 86 and 125 degrees (I'm not 100% sure of that temp range but thats pretty close), then shift the transmission thru each gear pausing for a second or 2 at each detent all the way thru, once back in "park" with the engine still running get under the car and remove the plug in the side of the pan, the fluid level should be even with the bottom of the plug.
Thanks again!! I put about 3 quarts in today w/ engine off. It ran out of the hole so i stopped. I want to change the fuel filter as well. The tranny was bone dry,I let it drain for a few days so i did not get a bath when i pulled down the pan and valve body. I figured it should have some fluid before i started it back up.
I got to change wires today then had to do WIFE stuff. So,maybe tomorrow i can get that fuel filter off.
