Default Lower Pully

Yesterday my '98 started making an odd noise from under the hood. When I shut it down and looked around I found the lower center pully had slid toward the engine about 1/2" and butted against the other smaller pulley. This caused my serpintine belt to slide about half way off, forward. The shaft that the pully mounts on looks like it is on a rubber pad. Anyone had this problem? If so what is the best way to fix it? Mike

Unfortunately, this is all too common problem.
It sure looks like you need a new crank pulley.
If it's under waranty, get the car towed to the dealer asap. If out of waranty, compared to other crank pulleys the C5 is a pain to replace. Its not impossible but, somewhat labor intesive.

If you mean the crankshaft pulley, I had this happen after a cam install. Cost $700 for the dealer to insall a new pulley.

Thanks guys, I guess it is one of those things. What causes this? I haven't got all that many miles.
