Default QTEC X Pipe on the dyno.

I went over to SpeedTek today to take them up on the dyno day, only $35 for three pulls. I drove 45 minutes over there, the car only sat for 5 or 10 minutes while a stock 04 Z06 put down 365rwhp then my car was up so there was no cool down time. The first run was with the QTEC cutout's closed and the last two were with it open. Sorry the lines are hard to see, they were thin and it got harder when I shrunk the size.

My car has 62,000 miles on it. I have a Vararam with a K&N filter, Granatelli MAF, ASP underdrive pulley, TPIS headers, QTEC O/R X pipe and Z06 mufflers.

I thought I would share since there was so much talk of cutouts last week. You can see that the with it open I gained 3rwhp on the 2nd run but almost 7rwhp on the third and 5 ft.lb. I think it's a decent gain however not quite the 10 or 15hp gain that some have claimed. Perhaps after a tune and a bottle I'll have more of a difference but looks like the Ti's are flowing pretty well.

I'll take 7 hp for $300! Thanks for posting. Not sure how much the x-pipe is but the cutouts are $300 anyway. Probably $40 to have a muffler shop weld em in.

QTP has it listed for $835 on their website. Since I installed the headers at the same time and it bolted right up to the TPIS, it was well worth it in my eyes. Plus this is something I can take off and sell if I trade the car in for a C6.

I wouldn't do it for $835. I would just have the cutouts welded in myself to my choice of x-pipe. I think that price is excessive. I will probalby end up ordering these cutouts. Love the sound!

Its a rich mans cutout. lol

You can achieve the same thing with some flowtechs and 5 minutes to remove a total of 6 wingnuts!

No wiring headaches, and probably 150 bucks total! 40 for each cutout, and 6 to put them in at a muffler shop.

Thanks for that info! But it would be cool to have switch in the cabin. Now to figure if that coolness is worth $150.

Actually I got it on sale, didn't pay quite that much. Watch around and QTP will have anouther, they might be right now. I saw it posted that they were having their headers on sale, I bet it includes the QTEC too.

It's worth more on a more modified car, or on a car with a poorer flowing exhaust. The Ti exhaust flows quite well, and your car is basically stock. That's probably the minimum gain you'd see from cutouts.

I did it for under $300 with some flowtechs, and McCord e-cutouts (much cheaper than QTP).

how well do the QTEC's install? Is there any modifications or do they just bolt up?

They fit up with TPIS or QTP headers, maybe others. If your leaving the stock manifolds or the stock cats, I would guess you can just cut the stock pipe with a saber saw and slip the new stuff over and clamp it down. The headers to the straight pipes and then the straight pipes to the X pipe are slip fits which you can either clamp or have welded.

Dope,
On a 408 race motor from RevXtreme:
473.42 hp / 461.14 tq - after install (cutout closed)
482.97 hp / 466.68 tq - after install (cutout open)

I think they also had Ti mufflers but not sure. Here's one of the original posts: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...highlight=qtec
