I've been told that when some cars have ABS, replacing the brake pads requires the cracking of the wheel cylinder bleeder valve. This prevents damaging some proportioning valve when expanding the pistons for the new pads.
Does anyone know if this pertains to a Corvette?
Thanks in advance.
There is no special requirement when changing pads on an ABS car, traction control car or Active Handling car. Corvette or otherwise.
I'm not sure what he means by wheel cylinder, I assume he's talking about the caliper or caliper piston. The Vette doesn't have drum brakes and wheel cylinders are part of a drum brake.
Maybe he meant the master cylinder? ABS master cylinders are specifically designed for the back pressure of ABS.
Some people crack the bleeder valve on the caliper to make it easier to push back the caliper piston, but that's all.
ABS components or master cylinder are not going to be effected by what little back pressure you get from pushing back the caliper piston. The back pressure caused by the ABS/TC or Active Handling system
when activated is magnitudes greater.
