Default Catalytic Converters?

I think my cats might be going bad, a little over 80k miles on the car. I'm starting to get this foul smell (rotten egg smell) in the car as I am driving. How can I make sure if it's my cats that are going bad? Also the car runs great and I have never had a problem with it. Plugs and wires changed a year ago (HP Delco wires and TR-55 plugs). I don't know if the O2 sensors have ever been changed on the car, but I have orderd some new ones and I will be changing them this week. The smell is intermetent and yesterday I turned the heater on and the smell just came in the car big time. Can the cats go bad without warning?

Sounds like an exhaust leak of some kind. If so, it's very dangerous (CO2 poisoning). You should probably have someone check it out.

Yeah I'm going to change the cats anyway to high flow ones, changing the O2 sensors, and plugs too once we get rid of this snow.
Well the C02 is supposed to be oder less, this smells like rotten eggs and it seeps up everyonce in a while. I smelled it in the rear exhaust once too a week ago. I haven't been using the car much lately.

If the cats were going, you could notice less power, also look at the exhaust manifolds or the pipes before and after the cats, when the car is hot, they can glow red, also a big temperature difference before and after the cats is a tell tale.

I haven't checked the manifold or pipes for the red glow. The car just gets that bad smell it's been doing that for the past 3 weeks. It's gotten a bit worse now. The car runs fine and there is no temp issue either.

My brother had a car that the cat went completely bad on it. It was like glowing red and the car was running like crap.

So would u think that it they might be just starting to go bad?
When they glow and the temp is high you know for sure they are bad.

I wouldn't know for sure just by the rotten egg smell. Did you say you were going to hi flow cats anyway?

Well I wouldn't change the cats if I didn't have to. But they are like $150 each so it's not to bad. So if I had to I'd kill two birds with one stone. But I am changing the 02 sensors on there, I think it's time for them. And I'm changing the plugs too.
I'm thinking of going on a long road trip in the car this week, but I don't know with all this. The car does run fine.
