I just bought an Exedy Single Disc and Nitto DR 315/35/17. My rear and tranny are stock. Also, I just bought LPEs hardened output shaft (left side)...don't tell Mallett!
I have 413rwhp/420rwhp and don't plan on any more than maybe 10-20hp/tq more. I'll hit the drag strip maybe 3 times in 2005 and don't expect to launch harder than 3.5k rpm. I hear the Exedy really hits hard.
Do you guys recommend anything else? I know the main shaft is somewhat of a weak link, but the $750 cost seems high. Unless everyone agrees it must be done. Thanks in advance.
Might want to look around and see what people are saying about the Exedy now... Not so good for drag racing, but your power output *shouldn't* melt it...
But, I'd go with a DTE Differential Strut Brace to ensure that the transmission and rearend don't rip apart. Cost is like $379.

Thanks! It seems like most people are having trouble with the Dual Disc setup and serious HP. I haven't heard negative things about the Single disc except it hits hard....like on or off, which is a problem for street driving. I'm okay with that...
Any side effects with the struct brace. i.e. clearance issues. I appreciate the help.
If you're not seriously drag racing with a real tire on the car, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I'd definitely get a DTE strut brace. If you are taking apart the rear to put in the hardened shaft, I'd get the rest of DTE's bag of tricks to throw in there at the same time (why not, right?). If you're not pulling apart the rear, just install the brace and call it a day.
There's nothing wrong with Exedy, it's just not the right choice for some situations. Serious drag racing duty will cause you to break driveline parts because the clutch hits so hard. Running extreme amounts of power will toast the clutch and so will slipping it with high HP and sticky tires.
For what you need, it's perfect I think. I too am running an Exedy single with similar power levels and it's been nothing but wonderful. Hell I ran the car with the same amount of power, a similar clutch (Cartek) and no strut brace, no shafts, nothing (bone stock drivetrain except clutch) for years without any problems. I just never ran any sticky tires.

Dope, thanks for your input. What are the other goodies from DTE?
I have the Exedy Single, but no DRs. It held up great at the track the weekend before last. My buddy broke his rear end last year after adding a new clutch and DRs, and a guy with a Procharger an DRs tore his rear end up this year.... I don't have any recommendations, only observations... Best of luck to you....
Send us your email address and we'll send you a ton of "goodie" photos of all the Corvette driveline parts we currently have that are not yet on our website.
