There are those that have put 295/35/18 on the 18x9.5" stock size rear rims and said that it was OK.

But, personally I wouldn't do it. I would get some 18x10.5 to go with the 295s. For the last 2 years, I ran 18x9.5/10.5 with 265/35/18 and 295/35/18. I recently changed the wheel setup and plan on selling the previous setup.

the stock setup has rears 1" taller than the fronts. to keep that, i'd do 255-40-17 F 25.1 tall; &
295-35-19 R 26.1 tall

it'll work ok on stock width rims....... i've seen it done, and the owners were happy (handling, wear, looks). the whole car will be about .3" closer to the ground tho

I think you'll have problems with that combination. The fronts are almost a full inch shorter (OD), and the rears are too wide for the stock (9.5") wheels. You'll probably be able to squeeze the 295's on, but the tires will bow in at the rim. You may actually wind up with less contact patch than using the stock size in the rear.

Play with some numbers, and see what the recommended rim/tire combos are, here:

Check your numbers. I think you'll find only a .53" difference in overall height/diameter. The car will be approx. 1/4" lower.

Re-read the post. The context of my statement that you quoted was comparing the stock fronts to the proposed replacements. 245/40/17 is almost a full inch shorter than 245/45/17 (25.68" vs. 24.71").

Your figures are correct, but 66427-450 post says he wanted to use 255-40-17's, not 245-40-17's on the front which would only be about a 1/2" difference.

OK, now I understand where you are coming from.

I was answering the person who started this thread, not 66427-450. I'll use quoting in the future, to avoid confusion.

i said........ "I'd" do 255's with the 295s......... to keep the 1" difference, and the result would be ~.3 lower all round.
