Has anyone changed the left output shaft in their differential themselves?
I was looking thru the manual and it seems like you don't change any of the clearances so you should be able to slide both shafts out the right side, split them and replace the long one.

I have never seen anyone talk about doing it this way but it makes sense. Remove the right side spindle, or at least swing it out of the way, remove the right side cover and you should be able to remove the carrier assembly. It seems possible just thinking about it but I can't say if there would be too much other stuff in the way. It's not too much trouble to drop the rear cradle...Now that I've done it three times...
Sure thing Mike.
Someone asked the same question as you did last week so I went out to the garage and switched one out.
Took me an hour and fifteen including the pics.
Ah yes, I was forgetting that the mounting stud needs to come out to get the carrier assembly out so I don't see it being possible without yanking the diff.
But it doesn't sound like this is what you were referring to anyway (replacing the output shaft(s) with the diff still in the car). Still not a bad job though, especially with those detailed instructions.
I went thru the manual and of course its a complete rebuild. So looking at the pictures I thought you could skip some steps. I was wondering about the stud that they double nuted to remove .... I figured it was an interference.
