Default Diy A4 To M6 Swap

I am down to my last few payments and was considering a winter project for 05. M6 / M12 trannies and parts seem to be plentiful, and after doing my own 3.42 swap, the mechanical portion of the swap doesn't seem too monumental a task. But how about the PCM / programming part of the swap? I have LS1 Edit, but is it enough?

I'm sure the shift tables have to be zeroed out but I'm curious to see if anyone who's done this chimes in.

This topic comes up a lot. Yes, it can be done.

Do a search. In the mean time here's a link to get you started. There's a few links to other links within these threads, but it should get the answers you need.

I learned something last week about tranny programming

I'm converting my engine back to stock by removing my Magnuson supercharger and cam, when I went to reprogram the PCM I didn't have my stock program but I had one for an 03 coupe with a M6 transmission (my car is an automatic) so I took that program and transferred all of my transmission settings to it and downloaded it to the PCM.

When I drove the car the first thing I noticed is how sluggish it was but I just chalked it up to the supercharger being gone, that was when I left my driveway. Now I'm down at the corner stop sign and go to take off again, this time I know somethings wrong and figure out the transmission is stuck in third gear and the only way to get it to go lower is to manually shift into 1 or 2 but even then overdrive is nonexistant, plus I also noticed that I had no trans temp indication in the DIC.

I went home and reloaded my original program with a Magnacharger and got the trans temp back on the DIC, I changed several tables on the engine side of the program and drove the car again to find that the transmission was back to normal. I looked all thru every window and table in the program and couldn't find anything at all that I had missed so I PM'd a forum member who knows more about programming then me (and I know almost nothing), this is the responce I got:

Hi,
I think the transmission assignment is within the calibration and is not editable. You'll notice this is shown in both LS1Edit and HP Tuners in the ID and segment section -i.e. when you first load the bin file. If you want to change then select a stock A4 bin file, with the same segment IDs, and use it to modify.

Sure enough I opened up the program and the segment id showed a transmission type "0" for my A4 and a trans type "2" for the M6 program, I haven't checked but I suspect a M12 tranny to be a type "1". So long story short if you swap the transmissions you also have to have a base program for the type of transmission thats in the car.

Michael, I have read about this swap being done successfully. There is a different wiring harness needed.

I don't remember exactly, but either Noggles or Buckmaster has done this.

How is married life treating you ?????

This is definitely the part that I get confused about the most.

I think Buckmaster did the swap.

Married life has been great. Julie has helped me stay strong through my Dad's health issues the past year. Unbelievably he was diagnosed with colon cancer last May, which he had surgery for and a quad bypass in November. He is slowly getting better though.

it can be done i'm sure...... & good luck if you decide to do it but the value of your car, won't increase enough to pay for the conversion

don't you think it would be much more "cost effective" buy another 6 speed car in the winter, when the prices are low?..... then sell this one the following spring/early summer ?

that'd give you a few months to get all your mods/parts switched to the new car, before you sell it...... just a thought

I agree with your statement if I still had a significant amount to pay on my note, but I am down to my last few payments and it is a DIY project.
