Default Info please on roller rockers...

Has anyone installed roller rocker arms themselves? If so, was it worth the trouble (more power), how hard is it to do, and what brands do you like the best? I haven't found any info in tech tips, so thought I'd ask. Thanks! JT

I use Comp Magnum stainless rockers all the time. They are 1.75 ratio as compared to the stock 1.70 ratio.
I recently changed to these from stock on a 427 and it made an 18 RWHP difference.

I put yellow terra 1.8 rockers and 918 springs on my stock c5 w/ a vararam and tuned to 13.0AFR I gained absolutely no ET or MPH at the track w/ very similar DA. Got logs if you'd like to see. Same w/ a ls6 intake. Honestly on a relatively stock car I think its a waste of money.

Andy,
Did you have to retune?
Do you think 1.8 or 1.85 would be better?
Stock valve cover?
Drivability?

Trying to avoid the cam swap thing. Front end has to come out, suspension is already setup for racing, corner weighted, etc. Big frekin PITA.

Have your 430 cid with Fast/90 mm, full enchilada. 11 to 1 comp. LQ9 72 cc., .58 cometic, 10 out the hole. Any clearance issues?

Running a .576/.576 234/234 on 1.7 stock rockers

With 1.85, the .576/.576 234/234 would effectively go to
.626/.626 234/234 would effectively go to 238/238

Installing rockers can be fairly involved unless your familiar with adjusting valves, the hardest part is rotating the crank 360 degrees with the rack installed, it can be done but it's a b*tch.

actually on a pedistal type rocker you dont need to go to the base circle on the cam of that valve. I've had these rockers on and off and running again in 20 mins. You can just torque each pedistal down to the 22 ft/lbs and it'll be fine. Id check one to make sure you dont have an odd valvetrain situation but after that just bolt em down to 22 ft/lbs not rotating the motor a bit. I've always done it this way w/ pedistal mount rockers and never a problem.

Same here. The Vinci ones a bit different or should I say involved from what I've read.

Pretty easy, actually. I modified a 24mm socket to do this. I slip this onto the crank pulley bolt and use a 12" adj. wrench to turn the motor over. I don't even have to pull the plugs.

Thanks for the answers! I think the way to do it is wait until I can take it to a tuner, and just have heads, cam, and everything installed.

if you are going with a cam stick w/ the stock rockers> The only real benefit the 1.8s give you is extra lift. THe OEM rockers are quite nice and have a roller bearing trunion. Some say they've lost roller bearings out of the rockers but ive put mine through their paces and they've been fine.

Nice job! How did you cut the socket? Interested in hooking me up with one of those if it is fairly easy for you?

I had a friend with a CNC mill cut the socket for me. The width across flats is 1.00" and the height of the cut is .40". Make sure you check the clearance before you buy the socket to make sure you get one short enough to clear the rack. I'm sure you could approximate this with a belt sander or a similar setup if you don't have access to a mill.
