Default Wheel off, doors open?

I just bought my first vette two weeks ago, and absolutely love it! I have been planning to paint the brake calipers all week. A close friend of mine has a c4, and he tells me that you always open the doors, when raising the car, to take the wheel off. i have an 01' coupe, and don't want to damage anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, lynx

On the C4's this was critical.. on the C5... I don't think as much of a big deal. I put mine up on a lift quite often as I have been working on the blower, etc.. I don't hear any cracks or creaks when I put it up there.

Just my thoughts.

Completely unnecessary on a C5. It has a very rigid structure.

Ah, but those are almost brand new stock runflats that I keep in case of emergency or x-country travelling.

Made 4 of these to hang the wheels.

C4's don't have a hydroformed frame. That's one of the major benefits to owning a C5.
