I tried cleaning it with a CD cleaner and sometimes it works, and most of the time the ERR message keeps coming up. Is there a quick fix or will I have to get a new one? Any help would be appreciated....Thanks.
Are you trying to play burned CD's or "store-bought". The stock players typically don't like burned CD's. Some folks have had positive results with certain brands and slower-speed burns. If it's not under warantee, they are really expensive to replace. A re-build on your current one is about $175 (flat fee to fix everything - with 1 year warantee).

I play mostly store bought cds and it keeps doing this. I thought it fixed it when I used a CD cleaner, but it keeps going back to ERR. The main problem is if I wasn't planning on selling it, I would buy a new system and install it, but if I sell it, be nice to put a unit in there that someone took out of their car....
Many audio systems are equipped with an integral compact disc player. Partially insert a disc into the slot with the label side up. the player will pull it in . If your radio is on and the disc will not begin playing, if a "ERR" appears on the display and the Disk comes back out, it could be a bad CD tray motor, Mechanism, Opt Sensor.

Thanks Sponge....that doesn't sound good....might be cheaper to find a used one that is in working condition....

Lots of them on E-bay (search "corvette CD changer"). Just be careful! They are sold "as-is". You could be buying someone else's problem. Mine completely locked up (wouldn't play, eject - nothing). Had it re-built for $175 with warantee. It will be tough to find a used one for $175. Best of luck either way - I know its frustrating to have something in the car that doesn't work!
If your stock system has given up the ghost why not look into aftermarket? There are some really great head units out there that will play all formats and sound great.
I realize MP3 isn't the highest quality, but for me it's no worse than radio and I can fit 50 songs on a single disc. Nice.

Just a suggestion.
Yellow...I have thought about that, but I'm also thinking about selling it and thought I would find a stock head unit to work and then sell the car....I might do that when I get another vette though...
I don't have any experience with the C5 CD player but on my C4, I found that when I burned a CD onto a 700 MB blank CD, I had problems but none when I used 650 MB blank CD's.

I dunno about that; 168 and higher MP3 bit rates are damn good quality
I have a stock one out of a 99 Camaro w/ monsoon system. It might work or it might not. If anyone knows if it will I am sure they will chime in. If it does I'll just give it to you. (you pay shipping)
