'99 AT...only mods are K&N inake and Borla Exhaust. Gears are 3.15.
I ultimately will get a SC...probably 2 years from now. In the meantime... I am thinking changing gears to 3.92, getting heads& cams, TC. After these adding LS6 manifold intake. (it seems to make sense to add the LS6 AFTER other mods...NOT before.)
The car is used daily for street use and some highway driving.
Question#1 Is this a good plan?
Question#2 Is this the right order?
Question#3 What else should I consider (in the meantime before the SC)?
3.90's maybe a bit much for a SC car.... make sure your cam is a good match for your SC plans... it won't be the same gain as a cam designed for normal aspiration... add LT headers into the plan.... if a SC is your ultimate goal keep this in mind when selecting mods now.... otherwise you will be replacing mods which adds a lot of cost..to an already expensive project...
OK....so it sounds like I can get more power NOW and consider nixing the SC OR keep what I have now...and get the BIG power down the road via the SC. I know its a tradeoff here.
In a nut shell...if I want max power, I should hold off for the SC?
You can absolutely do gears/tc now. That will make a huge difference. Same with the H/C. A blower grind cam will yield slightly less then one designed for an n/a application, but you will still pick up alot of power from a h/c swap. Same thing with the tc/gears... They will make a vast improvement on the street. But if you go to 3.90's by the time you have everything set up, with 500hp at the wheels, 3.90's would almost be a waste on the street. Its just too much gear. 3.42's would probably be a better fit. But trust me, still n/a, a 3.42 gears/tc/heads/blower grind cam car will have PLENTY of *****.
Whats the avg set up and maintenance cost?
Is it easy to use?
You can find a used set up for cheap and do the install yourself or pay someone to do it. Cost associated is filling the bottle, different spark plugs , and a retune to be safe. In the end you will have 100-150hp extra whenever you want.
