Default 160 thermostat question

After I install my 160 thermostat, is there anything i need to do with the computer or anything? Ive had a lot of guys tell me to be careful when you put different thermostats in.

There is nothing you have to do. The thermostat will only keep the temp cooler if you keep air going over the radiator. Some people will lower the settings for the fans so when you come to a stop the fans will start earlier. Mine maintains 167 degrees as long as I am moving, when I come to a stop light you will see it climb up to 180-190 and then will drop down again when I get moving.

Default 160*

check out the forum!.............the reprogramers are everywhere.............different brands for different applications,........I chose the hyper-tech, becouse it was the one that I felt, that I ,needed ..........ya,.......I went with the 160* thermostat also but, i also went with the throttle-body by-pass($15) and a really good aftermarket system for the cold air intake it cost quite a bit more(twinflow), but like everything else you get what you pay for,.........at this point the reprogramer makes a lot of sence...........however,.....if you are going to do real serious mods like, heads and cam up grades, then the symplisity of most of these reprogramers wont be enough!..till then ya,.go160* and reprogram

Thanks for the info. I have the throttle body bypass, and about to install the 160. So how should I reprogram everything (still new to the corvette world)? Is it worth it or should I wait to reprogram it when I get other mods like an x-pipe (soon) and LT (after baby is born)?

160 and the tune to change the fan settings. DO NOT DO the throtle by pass. Your A/F will be way off.

I have done the TB bypass and have never heard that before. Does it really throw of the A/F?

The throttle body bypass does nothing to change your A/F.

Whether it adds HP is very questionable, but hey, adding even a little heat to the intake air will pull HP, so the theory is good. If you are running the car in cold temps with high humidity you could have problems witha the bypass. The throttle body/blades COULD frost up and not open/close completly but I haven't had a problem with mine in 5 years of every daily driver operation.

I installed a 160 stat last year, no tune yet but in the works. I must admit it made a difference in my temp reading. It never hits 220 since the 160 went in and the car runs fine.

Install it!!!!

FYI, the factory settings for your cooling fans are as follows:

Low speed fan on at 226, off at 219.

High speed fan on at 235, off at 226. (Dashboard high temp indicator goes off at 256)

When the A/C is on, and you're traveling under 35 mph, the low speed fan will come on at 185.

If you're going from the standard 195 thermostat to a 160, you won't get much extra relief when you're sitting in traffic (no cooling air to the radiator), unless you also lower the threshold for the fans to come on. Even with the A/C running, your thermostat opens at 160, but the fan doesn't come on until 185.
