Default Automatic Tranny Cooler Info Needed

After several Transmission Overheat warnings while running at Texas Motor Speedway, I have decided I better look into adding a transmission cooler if I'm going to keep driving like this.

This is for a pretty much stock 2004 A4.

I would appreciate any advice/experience on best brand, size, hose connections and mounting location.

Anyone run into warranty issues with an after market tranny cooler ?

Thanks

Most of the A4 guys run a B&M Tranny cooler. I run their biggest model the 28000 unit. It is very good cooler, however it does not come with mounting hardware. You can buy the fittings and hoses you need at Auto Zone. Make sure you get hose that is for tranny fluid not water.

You also might want think about adding a deep tranny fluid pan that holds more fluid, this will also help to lower tranny temps.

How did you secure it ?

My cooler is mounted in front of the A/C condenser. I bought my cooler from Jegs, you can also get them from Summit. I forgot to mention they also make tranny coolers that have their own cooling fan. I am not sure who makes them or how effective they are, but you might want to look into one of them.

Since you over heated your tranny it would be a good idea to flush the fluid and replace it with fresh fluid. You can have it flushed at a dealer.

Sounds like you definitely need one!
Try the B&M website for model choices: www.bmracing.com
Personally I`m running model/kit #70264 (24,000 btu,) comes with all the hardware, paid around $65.00 at my local speed shop.
B&M model #`s 70297 (9in dia fan) & 70298 (7in dia fan) come with 12 volt fans, 1/2in NPT fittings & thermal switch. I was quoted was $215.00 & $189.00 respectively.

Good luck, Rick
