Redline?? / Breakin??

The new engines are sooooo much tighter than the old days. Mileage and power do marginally increase during the first few thousand miles. Doesn't the manual say 500 miles for break in of engine/brakes/clutch? Having said that, the tuners take a brand new engine and throw it on the dyno to redline w/o issue.
