Default G5X3 - Which timing chain???

I will be installing the G5X3 in my 97 vette in the next month or so. I was going to run the LS2 timing chain with this, but I'm not sure if I should go with a double timing chain instead. With the double I have heard I will have to shim the oil pump, correct? Will my front timing cover fit with a double or will I need a new one? Will the pulley fit fine with the double? Any info on both timing chains would be great. Thanks for the help!!

I have the rollmaster double on mine. You have to shim the oil pump which is no big deal, the chain comes with the shims. The stock cover remains. I have the underdrive pully that is notched slightly to prevent any issues on mating to the cover and shimmed pump

Not sure on the stock pulley

IMO, I'd go ahead and install a quality double-roller timing chain and also a ported LS6 oil pump while everything is torn apart. If anything, those are cheap insurance and piece of mind for those trips into the higher RPMs.

Matt here with LGM. NWDANNER is offering great advise. Just to let you know we have encoutered no problems with just replacing the factory unit.

Huh?

The G5X-3 (114) Cam Pkg. was installed in my C5 at LGM last April, and I've not had any issues, just

Lou said I'd be fine with the GM Timing Chain, which is included in the LGM G5X-3 Cam Pkg. BTW, I have the ASP Underdrive Pulley w/o any notches.

BTW, Matt... I'm looking forward to coming back up to the shop this Tuesday for the FAST 90 mm Intake, G2 NW 90 mm TB, and Random Tech MM HF Cats installation. Hoping to dyno near 415RWHP (from 395RWHP) by the end of the day on Tuesday.

The newer LS2 chain is much beefier. In my little mind it makes the need for the double overkill.
Compare the LS1 and LS2:

See5, did you change to LS2 sprockets or use the original LS1 sprockets?

The LS2 chain is interchangable with the earlier LS1 so no, I did not change the sprockets. I put the dampener on but that was probably overkill as well. BTW this chain is only ~$30.

My local tuner also said it would be fine with just the factory GM chain and that's what I've been using for the past year w/o any problems.
But, that LS2 chain does look very nice and with no need to change the spockets; it looks like a worthwhile upgrade when the time comes.

Or we can just wait for the LS7 chain to come out.????
