I have a 2000 C5 with the runflat tires. Even though the rears are new I am removing them to upgrade all the tires. I dont care about the tire pressure sensors and want to remove them also. My question is will this trigger a trouble code or cause any problems. Or am i stuck with the sensors..
thanks,,,
With a 2000 it will probably show low pressure warning or something of the sort on the DIC everytime you start the car.
Why get rid of them? They are your valve stems on each wheel and about as sturdy a valve as you'll be able to find for your wheels.
,but I do believe that on 2000 and newer models you can program the TPM system out of the DIC using a TECH II. (If you don't program it out, you will get codes).
Hi
I am in a similar situation, but my car came with 2 missing tire sensors. I want to disable untill I get a couple of new ones. What is a "Tech II" ?
Sorry for the dumb question but I'm new to the car puter world.
Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan. A "Tech II" is a small "computer" that you can plug into your car and re-program many of the computer-controlled directions given to the various systems. I couldn't tell from your profile what year C5 you have. The ability to "turn off" the pressure sensors is only a feature from 2000 on. The Z06s use the same computer and don't come with sensors, so when they rolled them out they needed a system that did not require sensors. If you have a Z06, you can actually put sensors in and re-program them to work.
Not sure if the '99 is different? I've been running without them for 3+ years. I get a "Check tire monitor system" on the DIC; quick solution is hit reset everytime you start and forget about it.

Yes, the '99 is different. Pre-2000 do not even have the option to deactivate the TPM system, so there is no way around the codes that you are experiencing.
I don't know the exact cost, but you are talking $100's. Lot's of folks know someone that has one (and is familiar with it) do the re-programming. Some even have the dealers do it . Maybe another forum member can chime in of the costs.
I'll reprogram your car to turn off the codes if you're close. Did the monitors work? What do you want for them? PM me if you're in the Hartford Springfield area.
I thought you could only remove the tire pressure monitoring on 01+ cars. Because they redesigned the BCM in 2001 when they came out with the Z06 which doesn't have sensors. They made it an option code, which you can enable or disable in the BCM with a tech 2. The system also changed in 01, as the key fobs and pressure sensors went to a newer design which aren't backwards/forwards compatible. The pressure sensors and key fobs work from the same RF module. I'm pretty sure on a 2000, you can't disable it.

I humbly stand corrected. The programability did change when the Z06's were rolled out in '01. I apologize for mis-representing the '00 (sometimes the gray matter doesn't work so well with dates).
