Default Cutting Exhast Pipe...

I had heard some guy talking the other day about cutting some the stock exhaust piping off behind the muffler and leaving the rest bolted up. I was wondering if anyone else has done this or something similiar. I plan to get a GHL catback system sometime in the future, but I really enjoy the sound of an open LS1. Anyone with experience in this area PLEASE chime in!

I took my exhaust off and its dumping out at the end of the Hpipe and it sucks A$$!!! All the inside plastic vibrates like all hell so i would say dont do it. Only reason iv got my cat back off is cause one of the hangers broke off and i said to hell with it till spring

my 2 cents, if you like loud but not to loud take cats out, put in o2 sims and get you a good exhaust. Sounds good and loud. I have no cats and borla stingers and I get a lot of comments and people say that thing is loud as hell but sounds awesome at the same time, just my two cents, good luck

You can build straight pipe exhaust by cutting the mufflers off of a stock steel "over the axle" pipe and welding on a 1-foot piece of straight pipe. Even though it will be made of heavier metal, it will save about 10-pounds over the stock Ti mufflers.

It has a nice sound but is loud when above half throttle. It will also have some resonance in a couple areas of the rpm range.

I built a set of straight pipes (to use at the track) for my '02 Z06. It takes about 20-minutes to swap out the stock Ti exhaust for the steel straight pipes.

I did the same..cut off the muffs and made some striaght pipes with some nice tips. I think it sounds great, has a nice deep sound and when you step on it, it sounds better then any cat back I have heard. The key to having a good striaght pipe sound is to have tail pipes with tips, if you just cut off the mufflers it will sound like ****. You will also notice a little increase in power
