I took off my wheels to investigate the "squealing, marbles in a tin can, tapping" sound when I lock the wheel to the right. I didn't see any rubbing anywhere and everything looks great. Only when the wheel is turned all the way so it can't turn any more to the right, it makes a god aweful sound like previously mentioned. No noise locking the wheel to the left. What do you guys think it might be? I need to get an alignment so I would like to fix this before I go so I don't have to pay twice for it.
I had the same problem.. I first heard it when the wheel was locked to the right - then after a while it occured when it was locked to the left..Drove me up the wall.. I looked at the column, I lubed it and still made no difference.. I ended up upgrading my rims and tires and of course got a 4 wheel alignment, to protect the small investment..The original alignment was off quite a bit compared to the final alignment done..The alignment was done about 4 weeks ago and I have not heard the noises anymore..So in a nut shell - When the steering system is in a bind it makes terrible noises - which proved to be true in my case - The alignment fixed it.. Though I am going to bring it back in because it is pulling a liitle too much to the right and the steering wheel is tilted to the right a tad...Hope this helps
It's good to hear that someone else had this same thing happen. I sure hope it is becuase that will be a cheap fix. The car doesn't do anything else funny when I drive it. That's why it's been driving me crazy trying to figure it out. Thanks a million for the input, I really needed to hear a similar account
