I ordered a CV boot repair kit from gmparts direct. How hard is it to replace it?
It's the rear passenger side next to the tire?
Thanks,
Jason
You will need some speacial tooling to diassemble the CV joint to replace the boot. Once you dissasemble the CV joint, inspect it for damage. Typically when a boot is torn. grease is thrown from the CV Joint and trash enters the CV joint.
To make you task simple, you may want to change the half shaft as an assembly.
Took one of Andy's guys just under 2 hours to do for me. He removed the half-shaft assembly and got the outboard end off on his vise (no special tool, just kind of muscled it off). Then he replaced the boot, and got the outboard end back on with a lot of effort, including banging with a hammer. Then he got the half-shaft back on the car where it belongs. Pretty sure it wasn't the first time he's done this
