Default patriot 5.3 heads

Again, I'm in emissions tight Ca.

These heads increase cr correct?
Well, our premium is only 91 octane here, so the question is.....

Will these perform properly if I install them? Will there be knock issues?
Or are they perfectly fine for my application?

I have an a-4 and may go with a moderate cam(about as strong as I can go,apparantly, is somewhere in the 224 range,I would consider pushing it to a 224/228 if you guys think I could pull it off without issues)and I don't want a bunch of problems......emissions or whatever!

I'm just trying to educate myself instead of spending a lot of time and $$$$ only to have to undo whatever I have done

Any comments appreciated..you guys are the greatest.. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

11 to 1 is fine with a quality tune.

I pass the tough dyno-based sniffer emissions test in Fairfax County, Virginia with my Patriot Performance 5.3L Stage 3 heads that are 61cc with the larger intake and exhaust valves and Patriot Gold dual valve springs. I'm about to upgrade to the AFR 205 Mongoose heads in June and will be selling my PP heads for $800.

The 5.3 LS1 heads are a direct bolt-on just like any other LS1 style head - no problem at all. Mike

Aloha

If you don't already have a buyer for your heads, put me first in line.

Mike: I have one buyer identified for my PP 5.3L Stage 3 heads. You are #2. I expect to close the deal with this guy on 4 June (Saturday); however, if the deal isn't closed by the 7th - then they're yours. I will contact you either way to keep you in the loop. Thanks, Mike

Go with the PP heads...I got a pair with the new Gold springs and their lightweight valves for $750...just my opinion, but I'd save $1500 and make AhohaC5 an offer.

This is fodder for debate, but here's how I look at it: I bought PP heads for $750 and the Supermaxx header system for $1100...$1850 total and got them installed at the same time for a savings.

If I had gone with the AFR heads ($2400) and LG header system ($2000), I've have spent $4400...

So I sacrifice a few horsepower and save $2,550. For a guy like me who doesn't have unlimited funds, I can get similar performance for $2,550 less and be driving the mods RIGHT NOW !! Its a no brainer.

People debate the heck out of this on the forum, but for me its a clear, wise choice. For the price of the AFRs, I got a great, proven set of heads and headers installed...If not, I'd still be driving a stocker, trying to save up for the LGs and letting the heads sit and get dusty waiting for the install....maybe for a year, who knows. And while the parts sit, I don't know if they're good or not or defective or what. The last thing I want to be doing is to try to track down a warranty a year after the purchase. Forget it. Let those with lots 'o $$ debate and flame. I'd rather be driving.

With the 224 to 228 overlap @.50 you should be okay. The cam will bleed down cylinder pressure and reduce the chance of detonation.
