Default x-pipe install question

I just ordered an x-pipe from a member on the forum. I was wondering if somebody could post up the correct spot/measurement where the stock pipes need to be cut. I would apreciate a measurement or distance from the stock cats or maybe a an installed x-pipe picture that would show me where to cut the pipes. The x-pipe is by magnaflow and it will be going on stock pipes (besides the catback section). Also will I have to mess with the catback portion of my exhaust when i install the x-pipe? ... it took forever to line up the 4 slp tips (round not oval) and I would like to not have to do that again.

I installed my Borla system w/ x-pipe on a lift, and I just held the x-pipe up to the spot where the cat back bolts to the rest of the system, and marked the spot to cut with a Sharpie. the cat back can stay installed, but when you unbolt the stock h-pipe the alignment may be affected.

Some vendor sites have downloadable procedures for exhaust install, and I'm sure some one will chime in with the methods they used and some pics.

Go to the Magnaflow website and download what you need. That's what I did when I bought my x-pipe from a forum member

There's a big enough overlap and it will allow for a little better
adjustment.

Use a level on the X-pipe before bolting on the muffler pipes.
Don't clamp down the forward end of the X-pipe until you're satisfied
with the tip alignment.

A small rotation of the X-pipe results in a big adjustment at the tips.

I just installed my Corsa X-pipe and I'm sure the procedure is identical.

1) drop the exhaust from the header down-pipe to the mufflers and lay out on the ground. This includes disconnecting the O2 sensors, etc.
2) lay the X-pipe side by side with the stock parts in the same orientation.
3) with a tape measure, measure from the center of the flange on the X-pipe to the cut end left to left and right to right(where it slides over the stock pipe). Mine was 38" and 39".
4) transfer the measurements to the stock pipe.
5) measure back from the cut end on the X-pipe for the length of the flare for the old pipe to slide into the new pipe.
6) Add this measurement to the mark on the stock pipe(this will make the Stock pipe about 3/4" longer than the X-pipe).
7) to get a complete circle line around the pipe, wrap a sheet of paper around the pipe, lining up the edges and run a marker around the pipe using the paper as a guide.
8) double check the measurements and cut with a saws all or hack saw. (it cuts easily).
9) slide the two ends together and snug up the clamps.

There is no magic measurement to give you as all cars are slightly different.

haha, thanks for clearing that up Doug ... when i was reading the post I skimmed over it too fast and thought that I read that he cut it with a "sharpie" ... so i was thinking what the h$ll is a sharpie.. i thought it was a pen.

on a serious note.... thanks for a smooth transaction I am looking forward to getting it in the mail!

If you don't want to remove the entire exhaust system from the car to cut the factory H-pipe you can buy (or rent) an exhaust pipe cutter...this is what I did and it worked great.

Exhaust cutter is the way to go. It put a slight bevel on the existing pipe that remains and makes it easier to slip into the new x-pipe. Also, before you cut off the old pipe, line up the new x-pipe to the existing system and make a sharpie mark next to where the very end of the x-pipe should be when the new x-pipe is fully seated. That way you know when you have it all the way on. Get factory gaskets, they're better than the ones that Magnaflow sends. There that's my $.06 worth.
