Default Customized exaust

Has anyone experimented with the stock exaust by putting in different mufflers. I have high flow cats to install and was just curious if anyone has attemted their own set up whether it be with exaust cut outs, turn down pipes, or putting in some straight mufflers down further under the car. I have a friend that can pretty much fabricate and weld anything, but i thought it would be wise to consult you guys before experimenting. If it makes any difference my car is a 99 A4. Thanks

I am thinking about doing the same type of mod yo my car to save money. Muffler shop quoted me 150 bucks total to make fabricated straight pipes with the tips on them. I think I like mufflers though.

I just added some flows to my system. Will be cutting out the H pipe to set up a dual system- will order an X pipe if I don't really like it, so yeah, I've been toying with my exhaust to find the right sound for me.

I have been looking at the Jeg's catalog and there are some race mufflers in there that are extremely cheap. A family member put some very similar race mufflers on their side exaust viper and it sounded 10 times better. I realize that the exaust set up on my c5 is completely different, especially since the mufflers are shaped in such a way, but I was looking underneath and curious if i would be able to weld in some 12 inch straight race mufflers after the H-pipe. Any ideas how this would sound? I think that i am going to need some sort of muffler to keep the sound reasonable, and I don't know how I would be able to keep the 4 tip look. Anyone please chime in

I think the "H" pipe is a pos, that's why I'm dumping mine (a lot of other folks use the X pipe). I believe the Borla Stingers and BB's don't even have mufflers on some of their systems, it would be similar to what you're talking about.

Check out my website, I've gutted the stock muffs, have stockers and have straight pipes all swappable in 15 mins.
