Default octane booster, anyone using it?

Up where I live NW Wisconsin, 93 octane isn't easy to find. Is anybody using an Octane booster? If so, what preferance? I'm experiencing "spark ping", (detonation), at low rpm's in drive, (a4). It' happens when in drive at about 50 mph, I give it throttle and for a very brief instance I hear what we use to call spark ping. I only use 93 octane, but I wonder about the accuracy of the octane rating at some stations? Or, would anyone with experience be able to tell me what might be causing this "ping" if it weren't the gas I'm using? Too lean? I KNOW for sure it's "spark ping". I can, because of the cam and headers in my car, ALREADY hear the valvetrain noise, and this is definetely spark ping. Would greatly appreciate some insight! BTW-head compression is 10.9:1

Thanks! Could you explain what it is (Torco)? Where do I find it? Also, I wonder about carbon build up, cause when I run it at WOT a time or two it won't do it again for awhile.

If you are already running 93 octane with the mods in your sig.. you should not have this problem. I would try to tune the problem out with LS1 Edit before giving up and having to buy booster for the rest of your life.

Default king of ping

Hey, I may not have the credentials of the others on this forum, but I think I have earned the title "the king of ping". My A4 was plagued with part throttle pings. If you want a list of everything I tried, some good some in vain, I can supply. My most recent experience is with a product called "seafoam". I tried every top-engine cleaner there is, but this seafoam stuff is way ahead of the game.

If you have Napa or O'Reillys auto parts stores, they carry it. Otherwise order on the web. This is what I did....

I made a vacuum line starting from 3/8 inch hose to hook up to the PCV port. Then it joins to a smaller diameter hose, and finally ends in one of those red extentions you get on a can of wd-40 or a spray can of silicone, or whatever. Make the joints with duct-tape or similar. Just make sure it is long enough to go from the PCV port thru the right side window and into the car.

I run this extra long contraption inside the car, start it up, and while racing the engine (to keep it from stalling) I insert the red tube into the can of seafoam. When I use up about 3/4 can, I remove the red tube and insert the larger hose into the can and make the engine stall. Let it suck in as much as possible. Let it sit for about an hour or so.

Then go back and start it up. It will be hard to start. But when it does, it will smoke like hell. If you value your neighbors, DRIVE AWAY. Beat the hell out of it. Eventually, the smoke dissapates and you are clean.
Next fill-up, throw one more can into the tank. You're done. If that doesn't clear up carbon deposit pings, then you have other issues.
