97 timing chain dampener
I have the older style timing chain dampener on my 97 C5. I am going to finish putting my engine together tomorrow, but was wondering if I should upgrade to the newer dampener? If no one has heard of any problems with the earlier ones I will probably stick it back in, as it is in perfect condition. I would just go pick a new one up at the chevy dealer, but they are out of stock and I would have to order one. Hopefully I will have her running in the next week. Thanks in advance!

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about (GMPP part right??), you can't go with the newer one since the bolt pattern is different. Isn't the old piece like ~$100 and the newer piece ~$30?

I just bought one of these thru GMpartsdirect for $87, I don't know of a different bolt pattern but if yours isn't worn then theres no reason to replace it.
BTW - I didn't think these actually made it into any production vehicles so does anybody know when they stopped?
