The dash lit up 3 times this week for service traction control/ abs at start up. If I shut it off & restart it okay, code than in history. What do I look for to correct or what would cause this?

I've had the same problem now and then over the past 2 years, it's fairly common. Do a search here on this subject you'll find lots of threads on it. Bottom line, it could be something as little as your battery going dead or bad ground....or worse case, it's a speed sensor or ABS Modulator Valve with is about 3k (parts labor) to fix 
covered under warranty if you have one.
