Default First drive with new 427

My friends and I worked all Friday and Saturday putting my new 427 in my car. Today was gorgeous here in Minnesota and I got to go for a 100 mile drive and I can't believe how fast this thing is now. I'm in a great mood and just thought I'd share it with you!

I had this code from last year c1286 anyone have a fix for this, it has to do with the steering column.

Thanks JHD

I had that code on my old 98. Had to do with a little $120 steering sensor doughnut that fits on the bottom of the steering shaft. I just ignored it, but it was a pain. I think I should have replaced it because it talks to the AH, and etc.... but you have to take the steering wheel out, airbag, everything, and I didnt have time to do it...

Very TRUE, I went through alot of cash building this, Cartek clutch went in drives really nice, less pedal pressue than the ZO6 clutch I used to have on my heads/cam motor. But yes they are very expensive. Luckily my wife last year said after we got beat by our friends 427 C5 that "We need a faster motor to keep up with them. Get it done!" Those were some blessing words. We went out this afternoon and I got on it 1st to third and she said thats what I'm talking about! I love my wife.

6.0 block, callies crank, lunati pro I rods, diamond pistons-coated tops and skirts, stage three ls1 heads, 2.10/1.60 titanium valves, ZL-17 cam .625/.625 at 250 with a 112lsa. TPIS modified ls6 intake with there oval throttle body, TPIS headers. Made 650 hp and 615 torque.

I have to say nitto 555R's are great tires, I put 4.10s in last year and it hooks really well. I put the old stock shocks in it so it will transfer better than the bilstiens I have, I'm waiting for the QA1's to come in. Got an x-pipe from Random technologies, took it out of the box yesterday to put it on, it was the wrong one. That was the only buzz kill throughout this project. All in all I am very happy with the drievability and the whole package for that matter. I love the idle though, really choppy, and it idles with the A/C on!

Did you have the steering wheel disconnected from the steering rack any time last year? If the steering wheel gets turned all the way around while disconnected from the rack the sensor knows and will give you a code. The sensor is used by the ABS, TC and AH to determine how far you have the steering wheel turned.

I locked the steering wheel when we dropped the subframe. Steering wheel is equal turns from lock to lock, when put steering shaft back on wheels were straight ahead. I thought also that something could have moved but if column or rack was 180 off you would think you notice it from lock to lock. Any ideas?

Thanks, JHD

Yes! With the right wife you can do about anything. Mine said after her first ever trip to Bonneville SpeedWeek this year that SHE needs a race car to drive... we bought one for her and are working on it.

Those of us with understanding/abetting wives are VERY fortunate, based on what I read here!

All the best.

RWHP or no? Wow that's awesome. N/A, correct? No nitrous? Fantastic.
How much compression?

These numbers were on TPIS flywheel dyno. It's not the biggest baddest one out there but I am very pleased with numbers and LS1 heads to say the least. I will try and post some vids or sound clips.
