Default C5 Wheel Lug Nuts

A friend avered that the wheel locks are the first loosened and the last tightened, (torqued). And that the standard wheel lugs are to be torqued to a final value before tightening the lock nuts. True?

Never heard of such a thing. The wheel doesn't know what kind of nut is holding it in place.

However, when taking the nuts off it might be better to start with the lock nut since in my experience they are the ones that have problems with the tools not fitting properly. If you can't get it off there is no sense having to put the rest of the nuts back on.

The proper procedure is to move to every other nut as you torque the nuts. If you start at the correct position you can make sure the lock nut is the last torqued down but have no idea why that would be necessary. Probably another urban myth.

Never thought of the situation that way before, Bill, but it's a good idea.....Not that I've ever had a problem with locking lugs...

What he said. You have to torque the lug nuts in a star pattern. Doesn't matter what tool is turning the nut.

Right on Ed, and use at least two steps, eg. torque to 50 ftlbs and then to 100 ftlbs. Yessssssss, use a torque wrench ....
