Default Fix it or Part it??

I recently purchased a wreck from a private owner who decided not to fix it. The car is a '99 Black/Black FRC 6sp w/47K miles and a clear title/carfax. This car is really hit it the front to the extent that the frame must be replaced.

Can anyone give me some insight on a job like this? Anyone have experience with replacing a complete front end on a C5? Car needs a complete front clip. I am especially concerned with someone cutting the frame and welding a new one on.

I am getting ready to pull the motor out this weekend. Still have not decided whether to fix it or part it out. I can email pics of the car if you like. (Since I am a newbie to the Forum I am not able to post attachments yet.)

Thanks in advace for any advice.

They had to cut the frame off this Z at the firewall. $21,000 in damage.

If you can get a new frame with the bumper bars, floor pans windshield frame and halo bar all put together for ~$5k, I'd recommend going that way. If you do, you can rest easy knowing you have a troublefree and straight frame. Most everything else on the car bolts on and off (except the rocker panels), so it should be relatively easy job to complete yourself.

Chances are that the bell housing is destroyed too...

Sport seats were not an option on the '99 FRC

I just replaced the front clip on my 2001 Z06. It takes time but its not all that hard at all and you cant beat the vette design for rebuild because the damage is kept infront of th etorque box unless its totally ****ed in which case you wouldnt want to touch it.

Also I recommend againsed buying a used front clip from a wrecker ( rails and cap ) because they always cut them toooo short. GM recommends splicing in the middle of the torque box and its easy to see why once you are in there .

How much for the car ??? Any damage title ? Post pics ???

If you need any help wit the fix up email me at twitch@telus.net

Thanks for the info. I'm almost certain that the car is fine in front of the torque box. Car does have a clean title. No salvage title. I don't think I am willing to sell it as is because I have too much in it already. You guys would probally offer me much less so my choice is either to fix it or part it.

Already found a complete front clip (black) that has not been cut yet. If I decide to get it I'll make sure to tell him to cut it
middle of torque box. I am willing to do all the bolt-on work, but I am just in need of a good frame guy to take care of the rest.
I am not able to post any pics yet but I can email them if you like.

Tell them to cut it as far back as possible / right infront of th evertical post the doors attach too , they dont like to because its a major pita. Either that or buy the front 1/2 and do it yourself. You will need as much materila as possible.

I got your email , ill send over some info.

This is one of those questions where if you have to ask I suspect you already know the answer.

Many try such things not knowing what they are getting into and either never finish or take a soaking--or both.

All the best.
