Default Interesting discovery when installing Bilsteins

Stock '04 shocks out after 7500 mi ... one of these things is not like the other

This is 2hrs after compressing it to remove it. It simply will not rebound. Interesting gurgling sound if I manually do it...Needless to say it really made for easy removal

It really makes me wonder when it went bad and why. I've had it lowered for about a month, or the last 800 miles. I've had one instance of 'bottoming out' on a hard bump. I've always had some interesting handling characteristics - axle hop in turns when accelerating (not standard straight-line axle hop). I'm wondering if they're related.

Anyway...you guys who are lowered on stock shocks may take some time to check yours. You can easily do so by undoing the top bolts (low-torque 13mm) and seeing how easy it is to compress and whether they rebound.

Yup, mine did it too, except it was after 80K miles.

Do you have to reprogram the computer when you change the shocks? I have active handling and traction control. Thanks

No reprogramming.

I don't know how the mag selective ride works if you have that option. Standard AH/TC are unaffected.

Default Sel Ride Control

99 coupe with Selective Ride Control. 21MC had to turn off the computer and something else so it wouldnt throw any codes. But they got it figured out and they were able to install Z06 shocks and sways. Huge difference

Wow. I'm @ 82,000 and when I swapped out the stock shocks for Bilstein Sports last weekend the OEM ones seemed to work just fine. Almost made me regret dropping $300. I was at stock ride height until after adding the Bilstein Sports though.

Yeah, I'm more than willing to admit it may be the lowering that hastened the demise of the shock (or it may have just been faulty).

Either way, there are many of us on this board driving around on VERY low cars with stock shocks. May not be a great idea.
