No, I have installed it on my previous vettes w/o disconnecting the battery. I think every piece of aftermarket product I have ever bought tells you to disconnect the battery. For some products it is a must - however, I believe most of them it is an extra saftey precaution (and also for liability reasons).

I didn't unhook the ground either. After the install my shifter is smoother going into gear this was a unexpected benifit. Has anyone else had this experience?
