Default repairing Magnesium wheels

Can you weld magnesium?

I have 2 hairline cracks on my back pass side rim. A local shop fixes & welds "any" type of wheels, thing is, he didn't think my wheels were real magnesium, he kept saying "they're probably aluminum". Any tips?

thanks

Are the rims this color?
Cracked like this size or worse?
Were exactly are the cracks?

Mag can be welded but only under perfect conditions, and for a wheel..........

I would call/e-mail http://www.magmasters.com/index.html (California)
They specialize in magnesium wheels.!
Good luck

Default doubt you have magnesium

the early "mag" wheels in the 60s were aluminum. magnesium is extremely expensive.

Default Wow Liability?

My personal opinion - NO, Heck No, and Definately NO - High liability concerns and considering the potential safety factor, again NO -

Have these been subjected to excessive stress?

Good luck - and once again - NO

They are magnesium, not aluminum. Unless the C5 Magnesium wheel option is a scam.

Yes you can, I had 2 cracks in the centre of the wheel, visible when the tire was off. A specialist welder who knows his material can do it.

What would be the dangers of driving with a cracked rim? It holds it's air & all. Has anyone ever heard of a rim shattering while mounted? or worse, while driving?
