Default Rear shock bolt size?

This will be a mundane question but since I'm doing my shocks for the first time, I ran into a little trouble. The front install went fine for the bilsteins but when I got to the rear I realized I dont have a large enough wrench head for the lower rear shock bolt. What size is this bolt? Appears to be 1", since my 13/16 driver barely misses it. Thanks.

24mm (both the nut and bolt) and you will need a bar to break it loose if you never have done it before. It's a biatch. I had to sit on it for 15 seconds with my impact gun at max before it loosened up...

Don't try to get close with an english socket...i.e. don't round off this one!

There have been various opinions posted, so I don't know which is right, but some have said this is a one time use bolt (TTY at 160 lb-ft).

I JUST got done doing this thursday and replaced the bolts to be sure; however, they're $8 a pop at the dealer *ouch*

Either way, the manual does say in order not to break the bolt, tighted the BOLT not the nut (I forgot who sent me that recommendation but thanks again if you're reading this).

Cheers!

don't know if this has been posted before as i can't find it using search but gm after it's lower control arm nut/washer recall last summer for certain 2004 vettes must have a had more than a few broken lower shock bolts... as i watched mine break on retorqueing to the 162 spec.

they released a PI dated october 15,2004 covering 1997/2005 vettes and 2004/2005 xlr's saying the bolts were "torque to yield" and new bolts must be used along with new nuts and the torque spec is 107 not 162.

if i was at work i would post the pi number for everyone...but my account on home computer for dealerworld is sales/administration...so it limits me to vis only on service.

btw...some of these are definetly not 162 from factory as i have watched them come off with ease...our 2 vette techs (world class level) really questioned the 162 spec (on recall instructions and thru manual which all said 162) on each of the lower control arm washer/nut recall...and each time it showed 162 ft. lbs. and 1 out of three broke...so months after recall for 04's we sold were completed chevy came out with the PI which for first time showed bolts as "torque to yield" and for nuts to be replaced. the part # for both are listed on PI.
