I have a friend with a 2003 Corvette with auto tranny and it is 100% stock. He wants to mod it some and I suggested software. Does software have any benefit for an otherwise stock car and are there any canned programs available for his model. Sounds like for the Predator and Hypertech, you have to know what you are doing as far as fuel mixtures etc. I am used to chipping cars where you buy a canned program that has already optimized throttle mappings and timing advance and they already take into account for basic mods such as cold air intakes. Thanks for any suggestions on software or any other good Corvette bolt-on mods.

Peace
There's not plug and play software out there for these cars. On an otherwise stock car; you can have the car dyno tuned for around $300-500 to optimize the fuel mixture and timing. But, you probably won't see much more than 10 hp gain unless you start to do some mods to the car. In which case you will want to have the dyno tuned to pull all the extra hp out of the mods that you can.
On an all stock car I wouldn't spend the money on a dyno tune unless the car is running pig rich from the factory tune. Because once you start to mod it, and most eventually do, you will have to redyno tune it anyway.
There are little handheld toys you can use to program your car, and then there are the software packages that run off a laptop. I'm a happy HPTuners user. For $500 you can buy the software and do it yourself. For tuning info, check the Tuning section in the C5 General Sticky...link in sig.

Whatever you do, tell him that the Hypertech is a waste of $$$ if looking for a handheld. I'm probably going with HPTuner software as before mentioned.
Thanks guys for the replies...got some research to do now on above mentioned programs...this is going to more involved than the plugNplay program I was hoping for.
Dont waste any money on HPP or Predator. For about the same $$ he can have his own copy of HP Tuners. Version 1.6 recently came out and is fabulous, when in the right hands. A DIY tuner can bone up on tuning pointers on a variety of forums and tune his own car with HPT because it comes with a scanner. The other option is to take his car (and HP Tuner) to an LS1 tuner for initial tuning and setup. On a completely stock car, no mods, not much to be gained unless the vehicle is an A4, then even a completely stock A4 would benifit greatly from A4 tables getting adjusted and tuned. But once he starts bolting on high flow air filters and long tube headers, the tuning really helps dial the mods in.
I'm in Spring Valley. I can't tune your car since it's a different year, but I can show you the program and help when/if your friends gets a copy. Hit me up on AOL or Yahoo messenger to arrange something if you're interested.
