Default One eyed headlight

So i'm out at dusk, last night, and turn my headlights on and the left light doesn't pop up. This has happened before, gears don't make a sound. wd40 works about three times, other lubs, not that well. 01 coupe, under warranty, anything i'm missing, or should a dealer take care of the problem.
Thanks, lynx

Could be the headlamp module. I had one go bad a few years ago, it caused one headlamp to go down intermittenly.

Thanks for the advice, face, when i turn my headlight on about four times, the left one finally came up. Just figured a little wd40, or grease would do the trick. not to be though.

You may have a stripped gear on that side....the original gears are plastic and teeth brake off. There are replacement gears available that are made of metal and last forever.

Thanks for the gear tip. I hate to take it to the dealer, and have the same problem a year or two down the road. Will go with the brass gear, and do it right. lynx

If you do happen to take it to the dealer you should mention this bulletin to them. I rebuilt my own with the brass gear that you see mentioned above. Then I went to the dealer and purchased the parts mentioned in this bulletin and did this repair. Haven't had headlamp problems in almost a year.

Tech - Left Headlamp Door Does Not Stay Closed #00-08-42-002
Left Headlamp Door Does Not Stay Closed (Shim Headlamp Door Motor/Actuator and Replace Insulators)
2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition
Some customers may comment that the left front headlamp door does not remain closed after the headlamps are turned off. Others may comment that the left headlamp door closes when the headlamps are turned off, but then reopens. In either case, the right headlamp door operates properly.

Correction

Important
The following information applies to the left front headlamp door motor/actuator only. It does not apply to and should not be performed on the right front headlamp door motor/actuator.

Install one washer (2) between the left headlamp door motor/actuator (1) and the mounting bracket (3) at each of the three attaching bolt locations. Also replace the insulator (4) on each of the two mounting bracket travel stop tabs (5) as shown. For information on headlamp motor/actuator removal, see the Headlamp Motor/Actuator Replacement procedure in the Lighting sub-section of Body & Accessories in the appropriate Service Manual.

Parts Information
Part Number Description Qty Per Vehicle
11505463 Washer 3
16524060 Insulator 2

Parts are expected to be available from GMSPO, 6/15/00.

Warranty Information
For vehicles repaired under warranty, use:

Labor Operation Description Labor Time
N3231 Actuator Assembly, Left Front Headlamp - Replace Note: Also Referred to as "Motor Assembly" 0.5 hr

Hope this helps.....

Thanks NYC, alot of good info. Still kinda baffled, the left headlight doesn't make any noise, just doesn't pop up. After about four trys, works just fine.
Again, thanks

Default Before you buy replacement gears...

If the motor spins but the headlight doesn't come up it's either stripped gears or more likely the 4 little plastic cross-members the inner part of the gear wheel is supposed to engage. If the motor's not spinning then you have some other problem. You should be able to both hear the motor spin and see the little plastic **** (used for manual up/down) spinning around.

When mine went bad I found the actual gear teeth were not stripped, just these 4 little plastic tab things that engage the inner part of the gear when the motor spins. After 2 failed attempts at reparing the plastic tabs I just JB-welded the heck out of the damn thing and everything is fine now.
