Default Blackwing install difficulty

Hi there,

I'm attempting to install the Donaldson Blackwing on my 1998 vert, and am running into some problems. I can't get the MAF wires to disconnect. The electrical connector up near the throttle body comes off with no fight at all, but the MAF plug is held in like hell. There's no clips or keys that retain it in place that I can tell. Did anyone else have trouble pulling this out? I'm afraid to yank on it super hard in fear of damaging it.

I did mine without disconnecting any wires. Just be careful.

How did you go about doing it without disconnecting any wires? Every guide I've read said the MAF and the intake air temp sensors need to be disconnected. The IAT sensor comes off no problem.

Do I need to use a screwdriver to pry out the MAF sensor?

Reach down low on the connector. There's a little clip that holds it in. Don't try to pull the lighter colored part with the three wire out. It's the black part that comes out. Use a small mirror to see the clip. Good luck. - C.

I took loosened the clamp that holds the air hose coupler to the engine and the clamp that holds the filter assembley. I then turned the assembly with the airbridge sideways and let it sit on the motor while I mounted the Blackwing filter.

Not sure if the 97 is the same as 98...but my MAF has a clip...and it's in the front where you can't see it...same type of clip the other wire has except slightly wider...

hope this helps!

The clip is a standard retaining clip. Push the tab away from the connector and it should pull right out with a minimum amount of effort.

It can be a PITA, but just take your time and be careful and it will come on out...

Actually, the lighter colored part is the clip.

Bob,
There's another, bigger clip below. It's easier to pull out but harder to find. - C.
