Hey all, I have an 01 M6 Corvette (long tubes, 4.10's, blackwing, borla stingers) that has a HUGE problem with wheel hop right now...I recently got some severe wheel hop on a launch at the track which snapped my tranny shaft and took out parts of the tranny itself (mucho $$ to repair)...Needless to say I am not eager to repeat that experience again any time soon!!! So how can I prevent such insane wheel hop? I am not at all opposed to buying a set of drag radials, etc in order to make sure I stop breaking things on this car!
Are you putting in hardened output shafts, and/or, tranny brace this time around? That will help prevent you from breaking things.
More than anything, I think the best thing you can do is just get off the gas when you start to feel it. The more you drag it and the more experience you get behind the wheel, the more familiar you will become with your paticular car/set up. It will become instinct and you will know exactly how much gas/clutch to give it to keep from wheel hop.
I got a lot of wheel hop with my 01 at the strip...was following the advice of a few to stay out of the waterbox and just run it from there ( it has Pirelli run flats). It always felt like it had hard plastic tires..lots of wheel hop and no traction thru 1st and 2nd (M6). Last week I decided to try a little heat on the tires...a quick burn (not any huge smoke kind of thing) in the box helped more than I could image by reducing wheel hop and obtaining much better traction.
Turns a steady 13.295 @ 109 - lots of fun. Would like to get the 60 time down a bit with some better tires to run in the high 12's.
