I was well on my way into buying a urenthane bushings set from MidAmerica for the squeeky suspension on my '99 Corvette. My chevrolet mechanic advised me that the urethanes squeek even more due to the fact that they're harder. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which bushings are best? Should I just go with GM parts or is there a better alternative out there?
I just replaced my fact. bushings this week with poly U due to the factory groaning and squeeking. The poly U came with a special lube for the new bushings. I put the lube on and have only driven about 5 miles and it is quiet. Last night I worked on a friends C5 with tire sensors and he told me " the ploy U will make more noise than stock".
So I heard the same thing,, what's up,, my 64 didn't make such noises on the sway bar. New factory bushings didn't make noise at least for 60 K miles. Are they just worn out. I pulled the factory bushings down and lubed them with rubber lube (grease) and they were quiet for 1 day, then the groaning started. Wore the paint completely off the sway bar.
I polished the bar smooth before putting the poly lube and new bushings on. Now I am waiting to see what happens. So best of luck,, and let's squeek along. 99 Nassau Blue
Do you meen swaybar bushings only or ALL suspension bushings (including A-Arm etc.)?
If you replace them all you will likely get more groaning and creaking because they are less compliant. Swaybar bushings alone I can't say.
If you mean all: If yours on the '99 are just worn out, I would consider just replacing them. If you track the car often, and have to replace them anyway then take the opportunity to go polyurethane. But, poly will be harsher and louder.
You can't get replacement rubber bushings unless you buy complete control arms. The T1 control arms come with stiffer rubber bushings and balljoints. If you're still interested in polyurethane bushings, read the C5 General Sticky...or buy the cheapest bushings out there and post on here daily for weeks about what a PITA your bushings are to install and if anyone can help....learn from mistakes made previously by other members here.
