I recently was involved in an accident (deer) that reulted in the windshield of my 2001 C5 being broken. Some of the glass particles cut/scratched the dash pad so it is being replaced. The car was not equipped with HUD.
I have been thinking about adding the HUD and when the repair shop called they have the option of buying an instrument panel (dash pad) with or without HUD specified.
What is the difference? Is the bezel already installed on the HUD dashboard or is it merely that the hold has been cut?
I'm doing a convertion this weekend...They do have you cut the dash but I'm assuming an HUD equipped car would have an actuall HUD dash. An easy way to find out would be call a GM dealership and see if they carry different part numbers
Let the repair shop order a panel already with the HUD opening including the bezel.
I´ve put in the HUD into my ´98 and the hardest part was to cut the dash as the bezel itself was not a simple template to use. It took me two hours only cuttinfg and fixing. The chance to cut the opening too wide is great.
What is the difference? Is the bezel already installed on the HUD dashboard or is it merely that the hold has been cut?
Probably both.
If you are considering adding HUD now is the time to do it. It would be SO easy to install the HUD while the dash and window are out! In fact, since it's a bolt-in maybe you can talk the shop into installing the HUD.
