Replacing the AC compressor, and the shop told me they have to pull the waterpump...Well they also told me that no one makes a gasket for the waterpump, and i am going to need to buy a whole new waterpump!! AHHH, something does not sound right here. Can anyone please help me, i need to give him a final answer very soon on what to do. Thanks guys!!!
Absolutely rediculous!
Even if you got a new waterpump, you would still need the same shape gasket to seal it, unless he is going to sell you a new engine block too, heh...
If you have a 98 or earlier, maybe even 99 (can't remember) they came with paper/felt gaskets which I think GM no longer makes. They now come with metal/rubber gaskets which work much better. Tell them to look up the gasket for a 02 model, they will work. You will need 2 of them and they are the same part#, around $4 each.
Thanks guys, heres an update...I finally found the part an hour away and i was about halfway there when the shop called me again and said the waterpump was internally leaking, therefore the bearings are shot and it needs to be replaced anyways! I"ve never heard of having to pull the waterpump either to replace the ac compressor

I also thought GM did not make the paper gaskets for 97-98's but they do. I just helped a friend with a cam swap in a 98 and he was sold the black gaskets.
